Summer is about many things, and among those is preparation for deer season. Before you know it, you'll be taking steps up a tree, ready with a bow in hand. It may seem like a little ways away right now, but summer usually tends to fly by, and all of a sudden it's deer season. With that said, today I wanted to go over why summer is so great, and touch on a few of the best things that go into summer and prepping for deer season.

Shed hunting is quite the popular activity to do in the spring time for most deer hunting enthusiasts. For a number of reasons, shed antlers captivate people and it's something we look forward to after the conclusion of each and every deer season. Recently, I was thinking about how popular shed hunting is, and wanted to touch on a few reasons why we love to go out in search of antlers as much as we do.

The other night as I was remembering I still need to purchase my Nebraska Turkey license, I started thinking about the investment that we put into hunting. Being so invested, and having been that way my whole life, I suppose someone who's never hunted before would probably think that it's a bit crazy, or too much. Today I wanted to take a step back and admire (I think that's the word I'm going for) what we invest into hunting throughout our lives.

For the hardcore deer hunter, does deer season truly ever end? Of course there's the time of the year where it's illegal to climb up into a stand with your bow in hand, but that doesn't stop us from doing deer hunting activities non stop throughout the year. Today, I kind of wanted to take a look at what we put ourselves through during a calendar year as whitetail nuts, and have a little fun with it. So here's the yearly calendar for us hardcore deer hunters.

Last night as I got out of the treestand, I thought it'd be a good idea to swap SD cards from my nearby trail camera. It hadn't been checked since early September, and I figured it'd be nice to know if any good buck had been frequenting the area. With all of the attention that I've placed on Kobe, I haven't hunted many of my other properties, so I didn't know what bucks had and hadn't shifted into their fall ranges.

Hunting mature bucks is a way of life for most of us hardcore deer hunters. We obsess over mature bucks and are doing things every month of the year to figure out ways to send an arrow through one. For most of us, whitetail thoughts flow through our brain almost on a daily basis. Chasing these elusive creatures also probably contributes to more sleepless nights than we care to admit. Here's just a few reasons these animals keep us up at night.

This time of the year, I periodically get twitchy and it revolves around one thing - whitetail deer. You know what it's the tell tale sign of right? The itch is back in full force; the whitetail itch. I don't know that it ever truly goes away, at least not for a lot of us. But there is no doubt that it subsides during the winter doldrums, even if just slightly.
